Born in Melbourne in 1974, Jules is an emerging artist living in the NSW Southern Highlands. While studying at Julian Ashton’s Art School in Sydney, he acquired an appreciation and understanding of the classical methods of drawing and painting.

Jules’ compositions bear an acute sensitivity to the captivating dialogue between light and shadow, an intuitive understanding of the luminosity of colour, and a nuanced exploration of the spatial relationship between singular and set objects. His artworks are characterised by carefully balanced visuals and thoughtfully crafted compositions.

Recently, Jules’ artistic path has taken a nostalgic turn, shifting from landscapes and portraits to still life depictions imbued with memories and iconography. He paints in a minimalist and gestural style. From a distance, his artworks look sufficiently resolved, but on closer inspection, show a multitude of distinct painterly marks. The recurrence of certain themes in his work allows for the subtle unveiling of richly layered stories, transcending the ordinary.

Jules is an artist driven by discovery and transformation, continually seeking new ways to capture the extraordinary beauty in the ordinary. His journey has been marked by an unceasing curiosity and a compelling drive to explore a wide variety of themes deeply.

‘A striking bold composition, a thought provoking take on traditional ‘still life’.
